Client Scenario and Objectives:

The client had a phase II antibiotic for the treatment of gram positive infections in the pipeline, and wanted to confirm potential advisory board members across the world who had been active presenting or publishing within this type of infection.

In addition, the client product team had a need to identify and qualify potential thought leaders both for the US market as well as for their top affiliates in Europe.

While the client had some experience in the therapeutic area, it was necessary to fully confirm this knowledge base as the client committed resources to build their worldwide advisory boards along with developing key influencers by country.

Solutions:

The Clinical Intelligence team reviewed worldwide medical meeting data and benchmarked it against published literature, which enabled the team to identify and quantify thought leaders by a number of key parameters:

  • Volume of speaking activity versus published activity
  • Drug indication in the thought leaders body of work
  • Comparative trial work of other antibiotics
  • Thought leader clinical affiliation and pharmaceutical company affiliation around the world.

  • Specifically, the Clinical Intelligence team identified a number of microbiologists, who were very active in the therapeutic area, and guided the client to make contacts in microbiology. Working with microbiologists had not been part of the clients current strategy, which exclusively focused on traditional infectious disease physicians.

The Clinical Intelligence team provided complete view of the clinical landscape, including specialties that had previously been overlooked. This allowed the client to revise and optimize their course of action.

    Client Payoff:

Based on the new insights regarding the influential role of microbiologists in gram positive infections, the client was able to justify a significant change in strategy early in development. The client began developing relationships with key individuals who were not on their original target list, but who had been prolific with respect to both medical meeting presentations and published literature. This resulted in very significant cost saving benefits for the client.
